Our students are interested in a diversity of disciplines including biology, ecology, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, economics, and anthropology. Centro TORTUGA combines students interests with field practices, academic classroom training, and experiential learning opportunities to increase interest in the geosciences.

Soy estudiante de la escuela de Ciencias Naturales y Tecnología en la Universidad del Turabo. Cuando pequeña tuve la oportunidad de hacer feria científica por dos años y desde ese instante supe la ciencia era lo que llamaba más la atención. Me gusta aprender cosas nuevas todos los días y siempre tengo una pregunta para todo. En mi tiempo libre me gusta leer, ver películas y pasar tiempo con mi familia y amigos.
I’m a student at the school of Natural Sciences and Technology in Universidad del Turabo. When I was little I had the opportunity of participating in science fairs for two years and ever since then science has been something that really interested me. I like learning new things every day and I usually have a question for everything. During my free time I like to read, watch movies and spend time with my family and friends.

Me encanta leer, explorar sitios nuevos, probar comidas nuevas, andar con amigos, ver películas y más. Soy curioso, siempre tengo preguntas de muchas cosas y me gusta aprender de casi todo. Actualmente soy tutor del primer curso de biología general y de genética en la universidad.
I’m a student of biology in Universidad del Turabo and I love the natural sciences. My interests in biology are in evolution, genetics, ecology and animal behavior. I enjoy reading, explore unfamiliar places, try new foods, share with friends, watch movies and more. I’m curious, always have questions of a lot of things and I like to learn of almost everything. Nowadays, I’m a tutor of the first course of general biology and genetics in the university.

Me encanta el campo de la investigación por lo que decidi pertenecer al Proyecto Tortuga para adquirir experiencias y conocimiento. Mas adelante al terminar mi bachillerato en tecnología médica quiero especializarme en investigaciones. En mi tiempo libre me gusta leer libros y ver peliculas.
My name is Fabiola Marie Colón Cotto I am in my second semester of my first year in my bachelor in medical technology at the Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Gurabo Campus (Formerly known as Universidad del Turabo). I love the field of research so I decided to belong to the Turtle Project to acquire experiences and knowledge. Later on, when I finish my bachelor in medical technology, I want to specialize in research. In my spare time I like to read books and watch movies.

Mi norte siempre ha sido ser toda una profesional en el campo de la Veterinaria y que mejor manera de lograrlo que a través de la ciencia pura. Mis mayores intereses en la biología ambiental la cual es mi concentración son las especializaciones en la zoología, microbiología, micología, ciencias marinas y biología marina. Soy técnico veterinario y mi pasatiempo favorito es rescatar animales, rehabilitarlos y conseguirles hogar; además trabajo como “groomer’’.
I am a college student who loves Natural Sciences. My interest in science is due to my passion for animals. My focus has always been to become a professional in the Veterinary field and what better way to achieve it than through pure science. I am pursuing a BS in biology focusing on environmental biology that specializes in zoology, microbiology, mycology, marine sciences and marine biology. I have already an associate degree in veterinary technology and my favorite hobby is to rescue animals, rehabilitate them and get them a home; I also work as a groomer.

Soy un estudiante de ciencia que le apasiona la naturaleza, en especial los árboles. Mi padre siempre ha sembrado plantas para alimentarnos. Eso me permitió observar desde pequeña edad cómo de una pequeña semilla surge un maravilloso árbol. Me gusta sembrar y disfrutar de los frutos que me da la tierra. Además, practico el arte del Bonsai. Por otro lado, me gusta descubrir cosas nuevas en el área de las ciencias. Por esto, soy parte de un grupo de investigación donde se estudian y cultivan microalgas para la producción de biocombustibles. Más aun, me gusta involucrarme en actividades educativas por mi constante deseo por aprender. Suelo participar en viajes y seminarios para involucrarme y socializar con la comunidad científica. I am a science student who loves nature, especially the trees. My father has always planted plants to feed us. That allowed me to observe from an early age how a wonderful tree emerges from a small seed. I like to sow and enjoy the fruits that the land gives me. In addition, I practice the art of Bonsai. On the other hand, I like to discover new things in science. For this reason, I am part of a research group where microalgae are studied and grown to produce biofuels. Moreover, I like to get involved in educational activities because of my constant desire to learn. I usually participate in trips and seminars to get involved and socialize with the scientific community.
